Overview

The purpose of this programme are:

  • To provide graduates with academic education and career oriented skills to meet the needs of industry, research and education, particularly in the field of Information Technology.
  • To provide graduates who are able to apply management and technical expertise of various fields, especially in the field of Information Technology. 
  • To provide focus areas that are consistent with the university’s rapidly developing vision and mission. It will provide services, consultancy and training in the field of Information Technology.

Students enrolled in this programme are required to fulfil forty (40) credits comprising coursework, Postgraduate Colloquium Project and a dissertation. The dissertation is submitted at the end of the programme. In some programmes, a comprehensive examination is required

Entry requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in various fields from UMT with minimum CGPA of 2.75; or equivalent qualifications from UMT or any other academic qualifications from UMT or other higher institutions that recognized by the UMT’s Senate;

OR

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related fields with minimum CGPA of 2.50 or equivalent qualifications, and possesses five (5) years’ work experiences that recognized by the UMT’s Senate;

OR

  • Any other academic qualifications equivalent to Bachelor Degree and possesses related professional experiences recognized by the Senate;

OR

  • Passed the APEL assessment conducted by MQA in Information Technology to be eligible for admission to Masters level programs (Level 7, Malaysian Qualifications Framework)
    * Candidate must furnish the APEL Certificate from MQA before the admission process

OR

  • International candidate that possesses qualifications equivalent to Bachelor’s Degree or related professional experience recognized that recognized by the Senate.
  • Candidates who do not have a Computer Degree, must follow the pre-requisite modules in computing.

English Language Requirements

  • TOEFL IBT with minimum score 40; OR
  • TOFEL Essentials (Online) minimum score 7.5; OR
  • IELTS with minimum band 6.0.

International students that obtained academic qualifications from Malaysian public higher institutions that recognized by Senate are excluded from English qualification.

Credit hours: 40 credits (22 core courses + 8 elective courses + 10 master project)

    • Part-time – minimum 4+2 semesters (24 months

Programme Education Objectives:

PEO1 Able to use scientific and critical thinking skills to meet the needs of university thrusts and industry;

PEO2 Able to communicate and aware of social responsibility to keep abreast of current information technology development;

PEO3 Able to apply information technology skills with professionalism and ethical values to improve quality and productivity in the workplace; and

PEO4 Able to explore entrepreneurial business opportunities as well as have high leadership qualities and be able to adapt current technology for lifelong learning.

Program Core modules include

This course discusses the general methods used in conducting research. The style and method of writing a research proposal paper is also discussed. In addition, issues related to the attitude and value of professionalism as researchers and ethics in writing and publishing are also being highlighted in this course.

This course aims to provide a space for students to demonstrate social skills, teamwork and responsibility in organizing postgraduate colloquium ethically, morally and professionally. In addition, effective oral communication is also emphasized through the individual presentation of the organized colloquium.

This course consists of several  techniques of open source programming. In addition, exposures to the  problem solving are also provided  by studying cases related to information technology and related fields. Furthermore,  hands-on training in the lab will be conducted to enhance students knowledge in open source programming codes.

This course will enable students to gain advanced knowledge about  software  management  and   development  technology. This will help increase the students’ knowledge in the areas related to information and communication technology as a whole.

This course covers concepts and methods on various aspects of data analysis such as exploring, modeling, and interpreting information. It uses data analytics tools to develop a clear understanding of basic data modeling and statistics-related ideas.

This course is designed to apply strategic planning management skills in information systems. It offers courses that integrate management and computer science with a focus on current issues within an organization. The emphasis is on contributing to society and at the same time creating healthy competition with the outside world.

Programme Elective modules may include

This course covers the concept of Decision Support System (DSS) from a management perspective that includes integration of Internet functions. In emphasizing management applications, it discusses the implications of DSS  technology in management, the role of DSS in enhancing creativity and problem solving, the use of intelligent agent software and commercial data mining. The course also covers the various support systems, user categories, problems and technologies used and illustrates how these concepts and principles apply to a specific system.

This course reviews digital marketing strategies, implementation and considerations for B2B and B2C brands and provides a detailed understanding of all digital channels and platforms. Students will complete the course with compreehensive knowledge and experience upon the methods to develop an integrated digital marketing strategy, from formulation to implementation.

This course exposes students to master the methods of software testing. Students will learn how to test software based on international board’s procedures such as the International Software Testing Qualifications Board (ISTQB). In the life cycle testing software, students will learn a range of methods. Static and dynamic testing involves specific methods. Students will also learn how to handle the test results’  procedures and flaws. A workshop will be held at the end of the course where students will use case studies in the chosen application domain to perform testing.

Project module include

This course enables students to expand their knowledge, understanding and skills that are required to solve problem in related field using scientific way. This includes planning, executing and presenting significant research output/project.
