UMT Sailing Team Ranked the 4th Place of the 17th Royal Langkawi International Regatta

UMT Sailing Team managed to bridge the gap with world’s best surfers when it came to fourth in a series of five-day 17th Royal Langkawi International Regatta ending January 13, 2019.

The UMT team represented by a group of students and staff who is also a single team from public institutions of higher learning join this challenge.

Izhar Mohd Mustaat, the escort officer as team manager, said the UMT team has participated in several series of yacht competitions at various levels.

‘Alhamdulillah UMT team managed to get fourth overall as a Sport Boat category of 35 teams participating in seven categories.

‘UMT is one of the 19 sailing vessels representing Malaysia competing with the great sailors from seven countries: Australia, USA, UK, Russia, Singapore, Japan and Thailand.

He added that UMT Sailing Team has started to name in the national and international yacht tournaments since 2015.

‘In addition to improving the skills in voyage sport, this participation is able to highlight the image of UMT as the leader in shipping sports among Malaysian educational institutions.

‘With this competition, it also offers job opportunities for students who have been awarded the Certificate of Specific Sailing Coaching from the National Sports Institute to train new surfers as well as disclosure of marina operations and management spearheaded by foreigners to meet the needs of the industry.

‘Our team will be training and do better preparation to win the championship in the 18th Royal Langkawi International Regatta 2020.’
