The TES@UMT 2026 Experience<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT), through the Faculty of Computer Science and Mathematics (FSKM), welcomed thirteen international students from the Andijan Branch of Kokand University, Uzbekistan, for the Trans-Eurasia Scholars @ UMT (TES@UMT) 2026 International Student Inbound Mobility Programme. Held from 18 June to 2 July 2026, the programme brought together nine undergraduate students and four postgraduate students for an enriching academic, cultural, and digital learning experience at UMT.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A major highlight of TES@UMT 2026 was its strong emphasis on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Generative AI in teaching and learning. More than just introducing participants to digital tools, the programme was designed to help students understand how AI can empower the way they learn, think, create, organise knowledge, conduct research, and solve problems. Through carefully structured hands-on workshops, participants were guided to see AI not merely as a technological trend, but as a practical learning companion that can support their academic growth and future careers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The AI learning experience began with a foundation in the key concepts of AI and Generative AI, introduced by Ts. Dr. Ashanira Mat Deris. Participants were exposed to how AI is reshaping education, communication, creative work, research, and everyday problem-solving. This foundation helped them build confidence in understanding the role of AI in the digital era and encouraged them to reflect on how these technologies could be applied in their own fields of study.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The workshops then moved into more practical and interactive learning. Through a session on prompt engineering led by Ts. Dr. Arifah Che Alhadi, participants learned how to communicate more effectively with AI tools by writing clearer, more focused, and purposeful prompts. This session was especially valuable in helping students realise that meaningful use of AI depends not only on the tool itself, but also on the quality of human instruction, critical thinking, and intention behind each task.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participants were also given the opportunity to experience AI application development through a hands-on session using Google AI Studio, guided by Mrs. Wan Fatin Fatihah and Mr. Mohd Arizal Shamsil Mat Rifin. This practical exposure allowed students to move beyond theory and explore how simple AI-based applications can be developed to support digital solutions. For many participants, this became an important moment of discovery, showing them that AI is not limited to experts, but can be explored, tested, and applied creatively by students themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The programme further demonstrated how AI can enhance academic learning and research. In a session led by Ts. Dr. Wiwied Virgiyanti, participants explored NotebookLM as a tool for learning and knowledge management. They learned how AI can assist in organising information, summarising documents, understanding learning materials, and supporting academic reading. This session highlighted the potential of AI to make learning more structured, personalised, and efficient, particularly for students managing large amounts of academic content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Creativity was another important dimension of the AI workshops. Through a creative design session led by Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Zuriana Abu Bakar, participants explored how generative tools can support visual expression, idea development, and creative communication. This was followed by a multi-modal media session with Dr. Noor Azliza Che Mat, where students were introduced to AI-assisted generation of images, audio, and video. These sessions encouraged participants to see AI as a tool for imagination, storytelling, and innovation, opening new possibilities for academic and creative projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To strengthen their research skills, Dr. Amir Idzham Iberahim guided the participants in exploring the use of AI for basic academic research. The session helped students understand how AI can support research planning, information searching, idea development, and academic writing processes. At the same time, the programme placed strong emphasis on the ethical and responsible use of AI, including its limitations, risks, and future role in education and research. This balanced approach ensured that participants were not only exposed to the power of AI, but also encouraged to use it with integrity, awareness, and responsibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beyond the computer lab and academic sessions, TES@UMT 2026 also introduced participants to the warmth of UMT\u2019s campus life, the richness of Terengganu\u2019s culture, and Malaysia\u2019s coastal environment. Through interactions with UMT students, lecturers, staff, and buddies, the participants built meaningful friendships and experienced the spirit of international collaboration. These cultural and social experiences complemented the academic programme, making TES@UMT 2026 a holistic mobility experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Overall, TES@UMT 2026 successfully empowered participants with essential digital competencies, especially in the areas of AI literacy, creative thinking, academic learning, and responsible technology use. The programme strengthened the relationship between UMT and Kokand University Andijan Branch, while supporting UMT\u2019s commitment to global learning, digital transformation, and international academic collaboration. Through this initiative, FSKM continues to nurture young scholars who are more confident, future-ready, and prepared to engage with the opportunities of the AI-driven digital era.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
