The Faculty of Computer Science and Mathematics (FSKM), Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT), successfully hosted the Trans-Eurasia Scholars @ UMT (TES@UMT) 2026 from 18 June to 2 July 2026, welcoming13 students from Kokand University Andijan Branch, Uzbekistan, comprisingnine (9) undergraduate students and four (4) postgraduate students.
This inbound international mobility programme offered participants a meaningful two-week experience combining academic enrichment, cultural exchange, environmental exposure and international friendship. Throughout the programme, participants joined academic sessions focusing on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Generative AI, including Introduction to AI and GenAI, Prompt Engineering, GenAI for Learning, NotebookLM, Creative Design with AI, AI for Image, Audio and Video Creation, and Ethics in AI. These sessions encouraged students to explore current digital tools and understand their practical applications in learning, creativity and responsible technology use.
Participants also experienced UMT’s academic and research ecosystem through visits to key university facilities, including the Institute of Oceanography and Environment (INOS) Gallery, Sultanah Nur Zahirah Library, the Digital Ecosystem Centre, and the Centre for Arts and Culture. They also took part in Bahasa Melayu class, student assessment and presentation sessions, as well as interactive activities with UMT students.
Beyond the classroom, TES@UMT 2026 introduced participants to Malaysia’s cultural and environmental richness through excursions to Putrajaya, KLCC, Kuala Terengganu city attractions, Drawbridge, Mayang Mall, Payang Market and Chagar Hutang, Redang Island. At Chagar Hutang, participants were exposed to a sea turtle conservation programme and had the memorable first-time experience of holding baby turtles. A picnic with Informatics students at Tok Jembal Beach further strengthened the spirit of friendship and cross-cultural engagement between the participants and the UMT community.
The programme concluded with a closing ceremony on 1 July 2026, celebrating the students’ learning journey, shared experiences and newly formed connections. TES@UMT 2026 reflects FSKM’s continued commitment to internationalisation, academic collaboration and the development of globally minded graduates.
